Tait Ten Winners
Barnard Castle School hosted the fifth annual Tait 10s rugby festival. 20 under-12s teams from independent and state schools across County Durham, Northumberland, Cleveland, Yorkshire and Cumbria battled it out in a daylong event. The opening round saw WGS win their first and second games against Giggleswick and Richmond but their third game against Durham saw a late try which put our U12’s out of the Cup but still in with a chance of taking home the Plate.

In the Plate competition, a comfortable win over Hymers and a hard won draw over a determined Terrington Hall meant the Grove had to win against the hosts to stand a chance of competing in the final. After a hard fought game, WGS came from behind to win the game 15 – 12 and secured a place in the final against St Martins, Ampleforth. Once again behind 5-0 at half time, it looked like it wasn’t going to be our day but a late try and a successful kick meant the Plate was ours.

Well done to the boys and their first taste of silverware.
