Extended Project
A number of U6 pupils have been working on special projects to qualify for a new qualification. The extended project is a Level 3 qualification worth the same points as an AS, however it attracts A* status unlike normal AS exams. It offers students a free project choice, so they can explore in depth an aspect of a subject they are studying, or a topic in which they have a personal interest. The topic for the project is chosen by the student and agreed by a supervisor. The student has to show that they can plan, deliver, and present an extended piece of work. The project has given pupils a talking point at University interviews and made them stand out on their UCAS applications. Some of the first projects included an “Analysis of the World’s Greatest Speeches” by Charlotte Brennan, “Designing a Protective Rugby Shirt” by Harry Fisher and “The production of a LED Chinese/English language translator” by Yizhen Zhou. We hope for some more interesting titles for the next entry in March.
