Birthday celebrations
Pupils at Bronte House and Ashdown Lodge celebrated the schools 75th birthday in style! A calendar of activities to commemorate the event included a visit from a helicopter which took aerial photos of the school, including one of the children and staff arranged in a 1934 – 2009 shape, this was then made into a souvenir booklet for them to keep. Pupils then took part in a ‘fun day’ which began with a Founders Day service in Chapel followed by visit from a Circus group that performed a mixture of
traditional circus acts in the Big Top on the schools grounds. The fun day concluded with a balloon race and a cake cutting ceremony to mark the occasion. Parents were invited to join in the party at a glittering Anniversary Ball which was held in a marquee in the grounds. The celebrations were completed with a spectacular firework display. The 75th Birthday is a significant milestone in the schools history and one which will be remembered by all those involved.

Outward Bound
Year 6 boys and girls went on the annual outward bound trip to the Kingswood Camp in Colomendy, Wales. The aim of the 2 day trip, apart from having lots of fun, is to bring children face-to-face with completely new activities and team building challenges to get them involved in physical activities and develop self-confidence and learn the art of team work.

The favourite activities included the ‘Jungle Vine’ where they had to steal their nerves and gather their sense of balance to cross t
he tight rope wire with only hanging “vines” to grab to guide them across and the amazing ‘Leap of Faith’ where pupils muster all their confidence and courage to climb to the top of a 10 metre pole, before counting to three and putting their faith in themselves as they jump and reach to catch the mid-air suspended trapeze! A difficult challenge at any age!

Another exciting activity was the ‘Nightline’, a sensory deprivation exercise in which the pupils were blindfolded throughout the activity and had to navigate their way through a series of obstacles and mazes as a group, relying heavily on the trust and support of each other to negotiate a series of obstacles – all done in the dark!

Pupils also had the opportunity to learn some new skills in activities such as climbing and fencing, both are activities most children don’t usually get the chance to try at home, but by learning the basic principles at the camp, they can continue with them in the future. A great time was had by all, with new confidences born and bonds formed between pupils which will develop into many long-term friendships.
